Department of Film & Cinematography

The Film, Animation and Motion Picture Production programme at Nayolites Computer and Media College is dedicated to developing creative, technical and professional skills required for high-quality visual storytelling and modern media production. The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical, industry-oriented training, preparing students to work in film, television, digital media, advertising and other creative industries. The Certificate in Film and Animation provides comprehensive training in narrative filmmaking, animation, motion graphics and visual storytelling. Students are introduced to 3D animated logos, motion graphics, character animation and other digital production techniques that enable them to transform creative ideas into compelling visual content. The programme also places strong emphasis on cinematography and 4K digital workflows, giving learners practical experience in professional camera operation, composition, lenses, exposure, lighting principles and field production. Students gain an understanding of how professional film sets operate and how modern digital cameras and production technologies are used to achieve cinematic results. In post-production, students are trained in non-linear editing, visual effects integration, motion graphics, colour correction and cinematic colour grading. The training enables learners to take raw footage through the editing and finishing process and produce polished content suitable for professional distribution. The programme further develops students' abilities in screenwriting and story architecture, covering story development, character creation, dialogue, scene construction and professional screenplay formatting. Students are introduced to industry-standard screenwriting software such as Celtx and learn to develop production-ready scripts incorporating English, Kiswahili and Sheng, reflecting the diversity and authenticity of African storytelling. Overall, the programme seeks to produce well-rounded filmmakers, animators, cinematographers, editors and storytellers who can confidently create professional visual content while contributing to the growth of Africa's creative and film industry.
